God Won’t Give Up On You

Many people think that when you know and walk with Jesus all your earthly troubles will be over. I can tell you that has certainly not been my experience. Nor has it been the experience of any of the hundreds of people of faith that I’ve interviewed about their loss experiences. As Sylvester Stallone’s character Rocky said in Rocky IV,

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. You, me, nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

Rocky

In that context, a relationship with God has made an immeasurable difference in how we’ve have been able to understand and cope with the adversity that life has thrown our way.

If you’re a person of faith and are going through the pain of losing someone you love, do not let this experience derail your relationship with God. Loss is hard and life in this world can be unfair, but He is still there and He loves you unconditionally. While grieving, as hard as it may seem to you today, you are blessed to be able to turn to Him for support when you need it the most. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells those who are gathered for His sermon on the mount;

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Matthew 5:3, NIV

Jesus is directly and specifically promising that when you turn to the Lord, He will be there and help you through your sorrow. What a blessing it is to know that when you lean on God in your darkest hours, you will experience the comfort He has promised to provide.
